2024

Our mission is to empower young people to effect change in their community through design. We seek to serve a diverse population of students, all of whom are underrepresented in the design field. Through Project Pipeline, students are able to develop the skills and tools to contribute to their community critically and constructively.

Day 1

The camp kicked off with a field trip to visit the project site and meet with a local non-profit organization to learn about the history and the future plans for the community that their design project would serve. They also learned about the history and purpose of NOMA and Project Pipeline. Finally the students were taught how to draw plans, elevations, and sections through a block toy building activity.

Day 2

The students started the day with a collage exercise to activate their creativity and explore different aspects of architecture and design that resonated with them. They spent the day master planning their project sites, designing their individual buildings, and constructing physical models of their design. At the end of the day, they pinned up their work and began preparing for their presentations.

Day 3

Project Pipeline 2024 camp concluded with the student presentations. The students were so dedicated that they arrived earlier than the scheduled time to finish the final details on their models and drawings and prepare for the verbal presentations. Students spoke in front of their peers, family, friends, and professional mentors. While all students were assigned to a group and shared project sites, one group decided to challenge themselves by building their individual models to the same scale so they could stack on top of each other! Everyone in attendance was impressed at the amount of thought and work these students put into their project designs in such a short amount of time.
